sage, rosemary and thyme (minus the parsley)

Herb Garden in Mid-May 2010
Spent the morning harvesting the last of the herbs. It was both a wonderful morning and a little sad, as I love the growing months and being able to stroll out to my little pots and flower beds to snip fresh herbs and flowers. Cutting them in October  signals that perhaps it is time to put the beds to sleep.

I might have been able to leave the herbs in the beds for a while longer, but the mornings have been cool and here in Minnesota one never knows for sure when it might dip enough to touch the ground with frost. The plants worked so hard to give me such a bounty, it would be a shame to lose it to a chilly morning.

Last Harvest of Herbs
It was such an amazing year for my gardens, small as they were.  They bounced back after several wicked summer storms, including hail. I have dried several bundles of my tea which is a blend of catmint, spearmint, lavender and lemon balm. (Another has bee balm in it, too) This is the last of it. Hopefully what I have made will last me the winter!

I have also been fortunate enough to have a large crop of sweet basil, oregano, thyme, thai basil, rosemary and sage.  I have bundled several sage smudge sticks as well.

Another bed will go in next spring, and I intend to plant even more. Molly and I saw several herbs this last spring we wanted to try and grow but simply did not have the room. Will have to fix that this next year.

  1. Have you tried black peppermint? It has the most wonderful smell when it's crushed :)
