Creative 365:10 & 11

Yesterday proved to be a crazy day, and I was not able to get anything other than some stitching done on Frozen Fishin'. It is the companion piece to Snowy Snuggles and I am hoping to get a few more sections of it completed today!

I did take a break from the cross stitch this morning to play with some other things for Day 11.  I have a stack of old vintage handkerchiefs that I have been wanting to work with. I actually have two stacks. One of hankies that I cannot bear to cut up as they are either a) just too pretty or b) they do not have enough holes and wear for me to justify turning them into something else...yet.

There was one very delicate pink hankie that I have picked up a few times now, and this morning I turned it into four pretty little blooms. The plate they are photographed on is one I painted some time ago that sits on my china hutch!

And now a cup of tea and a lap full of needlework for the afternoon!

Mixed Media Monday Challenge: Personal Symbols & Myths

This week's Mixed Media Monday Challenge (from Beth!):  “Do you have any image, color or theme that seems to recur in your work? Why does this image call to you? Create a piece embracing that image, and share with us why this image/color/theme speaks to you.”

I find myself drawn to trees.  A good share of the fabric in my studio is nature themed. Leaves in particular. I spend a lot of time in the woods.  The dragonfly is my animal spirit guide and he is always popping up in my work. As he should, as he is always popping up in my life.

My piece this week is a mixed media collage. The leaves are cut from fabric and vintage handkerchiefs. The dragonfly poem from my shoebox of paper snipets that I have collected over the years. The little sterling dragonfly just one of many flitting about.

The Secret Garden

I have been busy making little vintage blooms for a new design, and I finished that design today! It is called Secret Garden and with each pattern there will be one of the little blooms and vintage buttons. They will vary from kit to kit.

The pattern itself is simple and will adapt to any color changes that a stitcher might want to make.

I stitched my piece over two threads on 28ct. hand dyed jobelan from Wichelt Imports.
