The Snowflake Collector

Finished today! The Snowflake Collector, the newest in the Snowballz Collection.  

Finished size, 51w x 56h. Embellished with a variety of snowflake sequins secured with seed beads.

Next up?  I'm not sure! 

For now, I think I will go chart a few things and see what tickles me with the most persistence. 

snowflakes: drift #2

Fiiiiinally.

Finished Snowflakes: Drift #2!  It is the second in a series of four and has the patterns for three snowy friends that measure about 60w x60h each. Buttons and found trinkets will also be included in each chartpack, and will be unique to each!

I also have this huge wonderful hunk of felted alpaca wool that I picked up at the TNNA Market in St. Louis this last September, and I am now itching to do something with it. Mittens maybe? There is enough for a hat too. Would be really unique! More on that when my wheels stop turning.

I have started designing these little biscornu patterns. For those that are not familiar with them, they are small designs that are 8 sided and can be sewn to fashion pin cushions, sachets, ornaments, any number of things. I have always had a fascination with blackwork, and also have a curiousity about motifs in textile design, symbolism, and am exploring how all of those elements might work together in these small patterns.

After finally finishing the model for the Wichelt Imports free chart (sadly, no one has stepped forward to hand over those extra four hours to the day I requested some time ago) I was able to get the next three Snowflakes charted and ready for stitching.  Here they are in chart form!

As with Drift #1, I will be working in buttons and beads as embellishments, and each pack will be different as I use found and recycled items from nearly two decades of treasure hunts.

Today while shopping with my niece, I found a skien of this really odd yarn. It is not my usual recycle, repurpose yarn and I had to think when the last time was that I actually did buy a new ball of yarn.

But this caught my eye and with my lastest passion for crocheting odd little flowers, it looked like something that might give me the weirdest blooms yet!

I also sold three sets of my flowers on Etsy, and that made me bounce a little. Packaged them up and they look like this box of Christmas cookies!

Last week of the semester and am trying to wrap up projects...

...and still looking for those extra 3 hours.

The fabric collection is still in the works. Will share more with that as I receive news! For now, it is under wraps. I am hoping that there might be news this week!  I am very excited about it and hopeful that I will be moving forward with it.

Introducing Snowflakes: Drift #1

Finished the first tri-pack of Snowflakes! Each of our little friends finishes under 80x80 stitches. I will be including embellishment packs with each set of patterns, and like I have done in the past, they will all be different. Similar colors, but the buttons will be coming from my collection of rescued and found goodies. The idea being that snowflakes are unique, and so each stitcher's Snowflake piece should be as well! (That and the fact that I feel it important to recycle, re-use and repurpose!)

There are four more "Drifts" sketched and ready for charting, and a spare flake that will be coming as a freebie with Wichelt Imports in January.

I have a few special requests for designs that I will be starting on this week, and then hope to start stitching the next in the Popsicles Collection by mid-week.

a charted look at the first 'snowflakes'

I finished charting the first three 'snowflakes', the new series following the Lil Flakes and Snowbugz.  There will be three in each pack.

I think with this new series I will be including a 'surprise bag' of embellishments. The stitcher can use them as they wish or not at all. Buttons, maybe some beads. Colorful little sequins and other trinkets I have picked up here and there. Things that are looking for a new purpose and a new home.

These designs are small enough for the stitcher to use scraps of fabric they might have in their stash, and I think that their simplicity lends itself to truly making these your own with thread and color substitutions.

 So far, I have four packs of three sketched.
